Evaluation

In my gaming documentary that I made to show how God of War has advanced through the digital age, I ensured to use a variety of different camera angles along with incorporating game footage to avoid the documentary being plain. I used several different and unique camera angles and shot sizes such as high angles, medium close up and a side shot just to name a few. My ideal goal before beginning to produce this documentary was to have a high quality product with lots of interesting and unique footage used. In addition, I decided to use the standard lighting in the room I used to light up the surroundings for the entire documentary to indicate a more cinematic atmosphere. During this documentary, I decided it would be in my best interest to not totally script the interviews as otherwise I believe the documentary would've felt a lot less authentic with forced dialogue rather than there true beliefs/opinions.  One of the most important factors that helped me on my journey through...

Final product and feedback

Image
Here, this is the third iteration of the documentary which I decided to label as the final title of the documentary however if this is not the final iteration of the documentary I will ensure to put (v3) to ensure there will be no confusion involving the documentary. I added the BBC Three logo along with (hopefully) finalising the audio quality as this allows my documentary to feel more like a BBC product. Using this, I am confident that I have created a high quality product that follows the brief's requirements. I can see the audio quality is something I can improve upon in future projects as this issue was unable to be fully resolved due to scheduling conflicts. However, regardless of this, I feel like the documentary was still a success and is a high quality product.

Production and Post-production diary

Production: Monday 27th March 2023:  Before I began recording, I walked into the room I would be using and realised that the room needed to be slightly refined as it wasn't in the best state to record. Thus, I rearranged the furniture to make a better recording space.  Today, me and my crew began filming the first section of my documentary which I labelled as "the second interview." I decided to do the second interview for my documentary first due to the timing as all of the participants available today. There were a few equipment issues/constraints that made me and my crew improvise with how we got different camera angles. My first issue revolved around the camera itself as the lens was blurry however this was quickly fixed by getting a different camera. Next, the only tripod available to us at the time was very short although this didn't cause it to be a huge problem and actually assisted with getting certain shots (for example a high angle) and in regards to gettin...

Pre-production: Creative Elements

Image
Script Here, this is the script that I created for my documentary. I decided not to script the interviews as I believe this would have created a more forced reaction to the questions rather than having it come off authentic in its delivery. I will ensure to rehearse the areas that are scripted with my crew to get the best product possible. This would be required in the media industry otherwise you would not be able to create a high quality product.   Storyboard  Here, this is the storyboard I used to articulate my ideas further whilst also showing some creative elements in the process of making it. This would be important in the media industry as a storyboard allows you to flesh out your ideas further.

Project Rationale

Reflection Overall, using the pitch, I know that the people who I delivered the pitch to seemed to like the idea as one person asked if it was going to be focused on just one game or if I would expand and do several different games/franchises. Another person replied with nothing meaning there was nothing wrong with the idea in their opinion. One critical piece of feedback I gathered was that the title I wanted to give my documentary was far too long thus I have decided to shorten the title to "Gaming culture in the digital age" as this isn't a long title that would bore the audience or make them uninterested to click on the documentary.

Investigation and Analysis

Moreover, with the BBC's products, they tend to use a wide range of unique cinematography which creates very interesting and unique shots. For example, in "climate change- the facts" there is a plethora of shots representing the contrasts of weather such as during vast amounts of heat and cold. In addition, they tend to use several diegetic and non diegetic sounds to convey there thoughts and opinions such as using aggressive sounds to represent the contrast in weather and the dangers that climate change can cause. What are your interests/hobbies? Overall, the responses that I gathered from this question showcased the areas where my target audience are interested in as my responses ranged from "performing arts" to "witch craft and gaming" to "content creating". This informs that the area I want to explore (gaming industry) is an avenue that I can go down. This also shows other potential areas I could go down if I decided not to follow...
